To correct minor defects in the eye area, such as drooping upper eyelids or excesses of skin.

How the blepharoplasty takes place

There are two surgical options, both performed by Prof. Giulio Basoccu of Rome:

  • a traditional blepharoplasty isengraved along the fold of the upper eyelid and under the lashes of the lower one. The scars are slight and the stitches are removed in three or four days;
  • a transconjunctival blepharoplasty is carried out only on patients who do not have excess skin, but bags under the lower eyelid, with incisions on the inside of the eyelid. The scars will not be visible

Based on the needs of the patient and the surgeon’s examination, a blepharoplasty can be performed on either the upper or lower eyelids or, most commonly, both areas.

Post-operative course

Immediately after a blepharoplasty, the doctors at Professor Giulio Basoccu’s Medical Clinic will apply small patches onto the affect area and will advice the patient to perform a cold compress. It is also important to remember that, in order to achieve optimal scarring, it is advisable to not strain the eyes for around one week afterwards and that using sunglasses going forwards will provide better protection (any exposure to the sun is extremely inadvisable for at least fifteen days after the procedure). This is the best way to avoid swelling and bruising lasting longer. l
